An out-of-state motorist led local law enforcement on a chase through the county that resulted in a crash and manhunt outside of Cogan Station Sunday night.

Cristobal Cintron, 22, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, allegedly sped off after a South Williamsport Borough Police officer attempted to pull him over for having black-tinted windows.

Cintron allegedly crashed his white Nissan sedan into a utility pole on the 1900 block of West 973 Highway in Cogan Station, and led police on a foot chase in his underwear.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Soto, Cintron’s 25-year-old wife, was allegedly left in the car “in clear pain and distress” and was unable to provide information to the police because she did not speak English.

The Hepburn Township Fire Department located Cintron around the 1100 block of Dauber Road at around 1 a.m. the next day, Old Lycoming Township Police shared on Facebook.

The chase began when Officer Gareck Esposito of the South Williamsport Borough Police Department attempted to pull Cintron over on the 200 block of Route 15.

Esposito said there was no return on the North Carolina registration, and when he activated his emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop, Cintron allegedly sped up to 90 miles per hour before crashing into the utility pole.

District Judge Gary Whiteman arraigned Cintron for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, escaping, criminal mischief, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, failing to drive a vehicle at a safe speed, failing to abide the duties of a driver on approach of an emergency vehicle and driving without a license.

At the scene, South Williamsport Borough Police were joined by the Old Lycoming Township Police, with the addition of the Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Company, Hepburn Township Volunteer Fire Co., Trout Run Volunteer Fire Company, Nisbet Volunteer Fire Co. and DuBoistown Fire Department.

Susquehanna Regional EMS was also present on the scene, and an additional drone unit from Tioga County also assisted in the search for Cintron.
