Aurangabad: The crime branch of Aurangabad police has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly possessing a stolen two-wheeler. He was using the vehicle by putting a fake vehicle registration number.
The accused — identified as Harun Jamalail, a resident of Bidkin area — was caught after the police received a tip-off about his possible movement in Nakshatrawadi area on Wednesday
“Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap near Matoshri old-age home. The accused was detained while riding a two-wheeler with a registration number MH-20, CE-9432. When asked for vehicle documents, he was unable to share it,” said police inspector Avinash Aghav with the crime branch.
The police then further inspected the chassis number and engine number of the vehicle only to realise that the two-wheeler’s original registration number is MH-49, AV-6849. “The vehicle was stolen from the jurisdiction of Sinnar police station in Nashik district. In offence registered, the cost of the vehicle was mentioned as Rs 50,000,” police said.
