PLAINFIELD — A driver was cited this weekend for allegedly hitting a teenager walking on the side of the road and then fleeing the scene, according to police.

First responders were dispatched to the area of 388 Norwich Road around 2:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of a juvenile being hit by a vehicle.

Police said arriving units found that a 41-year-old West Warwick, R.I., woman was driving a 2018 Dodge Caravan north on Norwich Road when she failed to stay in the lane and hit a 15-year-old walking north on the side of the road.

The Rhode Island driver fled the scene, but was found soon after in the Wauregan Village area of Plainfield, police said.

The teen was treated at the scene by firefighters and later taken to Plainfield Backus Emergency Care Center for apparent minor injuries, police said.

The driver was cited for evading responsibility and failure to maintain a proper lane, according to police.
