BIDDEFORD — Want a beach parking permit but don’t want to take time to go to Biddeford City Hall during regular business hours?

Residents looking for a beach parking permit may now get them online at: www.biddefordmaine.org/beaches. It is a new service this year.

“We have received a lot of requests over the years to be able to provide an online purchasing service for beach permits, but the issue of confirming residency made it a challenge,” said City Clerk Carmen Morris. “We’re very excited that we were able to develop a system that will make the process simple and efficient for both residents and staff.”

To purchase the permit online, residents will be asked to upload a copy of a valid vehicle registration for the vehicle listed on the permit, city officials said. If the vehicle registration does not show a physical street address in Biddeford, proof of Biddeford residency must also be uploaded into the online system. Permit purchases will be validated by the City Clerk’s Office staff on the next business day.

Resident prices for 2022 are $35 for the summer season, with $20 permits for residents 65 and older and for additional vehicles in the same household.

There is a $2.50 service fee for all beach parking permits purchased online, said Communications Coordinator Danica Lamontagne.

The City Council recently approved increased fees to cover a rise in expenses associated with summer beach operations.

Permits will continue to be available for purchase in-person in the City Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lamontagne said residents will not be issued a beach permit sticker to display. Permit registration will be confirmed by license plate number. Those who purchase permits online are asked to print a copy of their confirmation email and display it in the vehicle’s front windshield, driver’s side, with the plate number visible.

Permits are required to park at Biddeford’s beaches June 15 through Labor Day.

Nonresident fees are $245 for the season and those permits are available online as well. Nonresidents may purchase seven-day permits for $140; three-day permits for $75, and one-day permits, which are $35, at the kiosks in beach parking lots.
