HAMDEN — A portion of Dixwell Avenue is reopen following a brief closure Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash, according to police.

Officers responded to Dixwell’s intersection with Treadwell Street around 7 a.m., Detective Sean Dolan said in an 9:40 a.m. email.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that two vehicles collided in the intersection. There was one occupant in each of the vehicles. The drivers of both vehicles were treated at the scene and transported to the hospital with serious injuries,” said Dolan.

Dolan said Dixwell Avenue will be closed in both directions between Church and Mather streets “for several hours” as police investigate. He advised motorists to avoid the area.

The street was reopened to traffic soon before 1 p.m., Dolan said. He said investigation into the crash remained ongoing.

Dolan asked any witnesses to the crash to contact the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000.
