Pair arrested on firearm charges following Seaford traffic stop – 47abc – WMDT

SEAFORD, Del. – Seaford Police say a traffic stop for a wanted person Monday night led to the seizure of firearms.

Just before 10 p.m., an officer with Seaford PD conducted a vehicle registration check on a 1994 Buick Century with a Delaware registration, learning that the owner was wanted on felony warrants out of Delaware State Police Troop 5. A traffic stop was subsequently conducted on the vehicle in the parking lot of Royal Farms. The driver was identified as 31-year-old Michael Simerly, who was wanted on felony warrants. The passenger was identified as 44-year-old Julie Holston, who was the vehicle owner and also wanted out of DSP Troop 5.

Holston reportedly told officers that there were firearms in the vehicle. Officers observed a handgun in the front passenger area and a shotgun in the rear seat area, and a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a digital scale, empty heroin bags, and a small battle ax under the driver’s seat. Further investigation revealed that the handgun had an obliterated serial number.

Simerly was charged with possession of a weapon with altered serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, second degree conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $22,805 secured bail and a no contact order with the victim of the DSP case.
