Two teenagers from Perth East were charged with alcohol-related offences after a patrolling police officer reportedly approached a “suspicious” vehicle at a local baseball diamond.

Perth County OPP said an officer on patrol saw the vehicle on Pierson Street Thursday around 7:30 p.m.
After the officer determined the vehicle’s 17-year-old driver had been drinking, the driver registered a warn-range result on a blood alcohol screening device, police said. The novice driver was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration above zero and was also handed a three-day licence suspension, police said.
A 17-year-old passenger was charged with underage drinking, police said.
Both teenagers were issued tickets, police said.
The blood alcohol limit for novice drivers and young drivers younger than the age of 22 in Ontario is zero.
Kitchener man charged with speeding through North Perth school zone
A 26-year-old Kitchener man is facing charges after being caught driving more than 55 kilometres per hour over the limit in a North Perth school zone, police say.
Police stopped the vehicle in a 60 km/h school zone on Perth Line 72 in Donegal Wednesday just after 3:30 p.m., Perth County provincial police said.
The vehicle was travelling more than 115 kilometres per hour, police said.
The driver was charged with excessive speeding and failing to surrender a licence, police said. He’s also facing a 30-day driving suspension while his vehicle has been impounded for 14 days, police said.
The accused driver is scheduled to appear in a Stratford court at a later date to answer to the charges.
