Registration Renewal

Services through Kerala MVD website continues to be uphill task – Mathrubhumi English

Thiruvananthapuram: Applying through ‘Vahan’, the online system of Motor Vehicle Department, continues to be a gruelling and painful task even for users who are familiar with the procedure.

The lack of proper coordination between the online and offline modes of filing applications leaves enough space for intermediaries to intervene.

For example, application for transferring ownership of a vehicle is done through three stages. However, the applicant would not be aware of this when the application is first filed. After the completion of the application, the form should be downloaded, signed and reuploaded on the site. It is not an easy task for the users to find on the website where the form should be reuploaded.

Meantime, the office work is not arranged to facilitate the online site. Due to this, an application passes through the hands of multiple officials before finally getting approval.

The fees for renewing the vehicle permit can be paid online. However, if there is an additional fine, the applicant should obtain permission from the office.

Further, MVD has stopped allowing more time online for fitness and re-registration checks. Due to this, the agents can inspect vehicles with their preferred officers.
