Texans now have up to one year past the expiration date to renew their vehicle registration online.
The change comes as a result of a new state law.
According to a news release from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, those who renew late will still be responsible for paying a full year of registration.
Those who renew between 10 to 12 months late will have the option to renew for both their current past-due registration and for the next registration year at the same time. The month of expiration will not change.
It’s noted that registration and local county fees will double when registration is renewed for both years, though there will be only one processing and handling fee.
Those interested in online registration renewal can visit TxDMV.gov or Texas.gov.
